Fuji Star Obesere Attacked by Thugs During Burial Ceremony in Okitipupa, Ondo State
Fuji music icon Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, and his band were reportedly attacked by suspected thugs on Friday during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The incident occurred at the Government Field, Okitipupa, where Obesere and his band were scheduled to entertain guests. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as hoodlums stormed the venue, assaulting band members and vandalising musical equipment worth millions of naira.
“I was at the party. It was a very shameful scene as a group of boys known for violent acts in the community fomented trouble. They attacked Obesere and his band while they were entertaining guests,” said Mrs Bosede Akinyemi, a witness. She added that one of the band members was reportedly stabbed while trying to repel the attackers.
The Chairman of Okitipupa LGA, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, confirmed the attack, condemning the hooliganism. He described the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable” and assured the public that his administration would take measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“I will be personally reaching out to Obesere and his team to convey our regrets. We are looking into the matter thoroughly to ensure such an incident does not repeat itself,” Ogunsakin stated.
The attack has sparked concerns over security at public events in Ondo State and the safety of visiting entertainers. Efforts to reach Obesere for comments were unsuccessful at press time.
